My Momma's Little Table

I'll be honest with y'all... my first experience with Miss Mustard Seed's milk paint was not a happy one. I was working on my dinette set. I wanted to paint it a chippy white and it turned out chippy alright. You can read about it here.

After the first coat all the paint literally just fell right off... I even sanded! Oh well, I was able to make it work. But when my mom asked me to help her with this little table using MMS Tricycle I was a little nervous. I suggested we prime it because this little table was very "shiny"

Momma didn't want to prime it because she wanted to dark to show through, so we just gave it a really good sanding with the orbital sander.

  

My Daddy is an amazing wood worker... He can build anything and has made some BEAUTIFUL furniture including my son's crib and changing table. He is also a bit of a purist where wood is concerned. When he found out we were painting this little table, we had to listen to a speech about the virtues of unpainted wood and how we will regret this decision in 10 years when painted furniture goes out of style....

Sometimes, he's right... but this time, he was wrong. This little table turned out GREAT! The paint stayed where we put it this time. {guess I didn't sand enough last time}

We only did one coat as it was getting dark. OH! And just an FYI... Be careful when you are opening the bag of paint... You could drop it on the table while it's open... it could puff up out of the bag and get all over you. But, who would do that?? 

That stuff is not easy to get off.

Anyway, accidents aside, this little table turned out great! The next morning my mom sanded it down by hand so there were no orbital marks in the paint and we waxed it using Minwax furniture paste. {what we had on hand} This table really makes the entry way in my Momma's house. Isn't her house beautiful!?
