O.K. When I started praying for this upcoming cheerleading season... I prayed for safety... obviously. I prayed for unity. I prayed that God would show himself to my girls in a way that would take away any doubt as to who is responsible for our gifts and accomplishments...
Those are good things to pray for right?
Well, I guess I have learned that if you aren't ready for God to work... Then DON"T ask him to.
Yesterday, in my quiet time, I read about Gideon. I have been praying that God would give us a "Gideon" season. I thought we were already pretty lean as far as experience and raw talent went as a squad.
But, yesterday I got the email that two of my girls needed to remove themselves from the team.
..........
....really?....
God? I don't know what you are planning, but we can't do this without them....
And then... As I lay in my bed last night {not sleeping} going through possible formation changes and pyramid ideas, it hit me.
God is making us weak, so that HE can be strong. He is trimming us, the same way he trimmed Gideon's army. I can't see the future, but I know that it is in HIS hands.
If I didn't truly want a "Gideon" season... then I shouldn't have prayed for it.
But I DO want it. I want God to show my girls that he is bigger than our actual physical limitations.He is bigger than our abilities. We are on our way to a great season.
We may not max out the score sheet this year, or even have a win to our names... But, if we can see that God has helped us grow and that he had a plan all along to make us an example of HIS power... Then, we have the biggest trophy of all.
Why do I care so much about cheerleading you ask? After all.... it's just cheerleading. No my friends... This is the ministry that God has called me to at this point in my life. I am responsible for showing these girls God's love and His power.
Pray that he will continue to work... Because I'm excited about what is to come!
