I don't know what hit me today. I didn't get near enough sleep and I think I was delirious... But, I decided it was time to make my living room what I wanted it to be.... today. Guess how much of a budget I had.... That's right ZERO. A big fat goose egg. I didn't even leave my house today. (I did shower...)
I started by emptying the room. I needed a fresh approach.
Jake (dog) was very confused by this...
But I cleaned the blinds. I cleaned the baseboards. I climbed up on a chair and fought a winning battle against the cobwebs in the corners.... I even cleaned the windows.
It was nice to have such a clean slate.... literally.
Then I started putting things back in the space one at a time.
This is what I got...
1. I painted the fireplace screen.
2. I used drop cloths to cover that red chair. ( I will eventually buy one, but for now. on a zero $ budget... this works)
3. I changed the pillows on the couch and switched the couch and love-seat.
4. I took my keys down and replaced them with chippy white frames. (The keys are going in the dining room)
5. I rearranged by shelves.
6. I gave my son a place to store a few toys in the living room. (as if they aren't always in there anyway)
I LOVE the transformation.... I didn't change anything major, just the small things. It made all the difference.
After I did this room, I had to tackle the breakfast nook. This was obviously not all done today, this has been a work in progress for a while now...
1. I obviously painted the horrible orange color.
2. I took down the swag on the window.
3. I painted the table and chairs to make them chippy.
4. We changed the light fixture to more of a country feel.
5. I turned one of my rugs over and used the linen backside to give it a clean look.
6. I painted that secretary and put it in the corner.
I now feel like these two rooms flow well and actually compliment each other. When I walk in the main part of my house, I just feel like smiling.
Thanks for stopping by today. I hope you enjoyed this peek into my living room!
Have a GREAT day!
