Well, I just wasn't up to getting my giant chalkboard down from over my kitchen cabinets with this cold... But, I did want to share something artistic with you today... So, I went back to the basics of pen and paper.
I wanted to show you a simple way to draw a laurel wreath.
These things are everywhere right now, and they are so easy to draw!
If you don't believe me, just keep reading. The steps are simple.
I always start with the basic wreath shape. Sometimes that is a perfect circle, sometimes it's not.
After you've chosen your wreath shape, sit down and draw a sample leaf sheet. This should be leafs and things that you are comfortable drawing and can duplicate. These shapes should be very simple! You can see mine in the photo above. I numbered them for you. When you are drawing your wreath, these are the images you will combine to create the overall wreath.
I usually choose two or three to combine together... Although I'll show you one where I used almost all of them in combination.
This first one is quite simple. It uses a perfect circle wreath shape and #2 and #4 leaf shapes.
Draw your leaves on your circle... Then go back and add details. Then in the final step you add your "berries" in the places that look like they need filling in. Remember, these look the best when they are NOT perfect!
This next one uses the branch wreath shape and #2 and #5 leaf shapes.
I started with a basic branch shape, then filled it in a bit more to make it fuller. I added "berries" to the ends of some of the branches. I the filled in the bare spots with the simple leaf shapes.
This last one is where I got a bit more creative... I tried to use as many of the leaf shapes as I could and I mirrored them top to bottom.
If you are going to try this kind of wreath, you may want to start with pencil and go back and fill in with your pen. I LOVE this one and when I finally get my chalkboard down this is the one I will be using on it. It is simple, yet looks complicated because of how many shapes are used.
I then filled each one in with hand lettering.
These would be beautiful on a handmade card or letter, and I know they would all make beautiful chalkboard art. These wreath tutorials transfer very easily to chalk and work exactly the same way as with a pen... except easier because you can erase... haha....
